Do 10,000 steps without realising it: walk differently!

Would you like to do your 10,000 steps in an unusual way? Do you fancy a bit of theatre, music and tasting?

6,000, 7,000, 10,000 steps: let's face it, there's a lot of debate about it. But whatever the number on your pedometer, the important thing is to find a physical activity that you enjoy, isn't it?
So whether or not you're already a keen walker or hiker, I'd like to suggest some original ways to shake up your exercise routine!

Even if hiking is a sport that already offers a great deal of diversity thanks to the variety of its routes, a desire for something else may well cross your mind... And don't think you're being unfaithful!

Whatever your step target, with these new activities you'll achieve it without even realising it... Forget the obsession with the number of steps - and I know what I'm talking about - this time you can enjoy yourself, learn and enjoy walking!

↪️ Theatre hike

Also known as "theatre - landscape", this sport consists of hiking while being a spectator of a play or show.

During your hike, different scenes from the play punctuate the walk, with the audience being: you, the other hikers of course, but also the birds and nature. Rather nice, isn't it?

The stands? It all depends on where you're practising: a rock, a patch of grass, leaning against a tree... The play adapts to the setting and vice versa.

There are different formats for theatre hikes, with different distances, gradients, difficulties and timings. Depending on which one you choose, you'll be able to walk at dusk, if you're more in the “cool” team (like me), or at sunset, if you're more of a “sunset addict” (a bit like me too actually). In short, it's up to you, depending on your preferences and your schedule, of course!

What do you need? As for a classic hike: shoes, a flask, a backpack and... that's it! Then let yourself be carried away by the plot and story of the day: classic or not, comic or tragic... Be curious!

↪️ Hiking and readings

By choosing this type of hike, this time your walk will be punctuated by reading breaks.

You can take advantage of this sporting session - yes, we'd almost forgotten about the sporting aspect - to (re)discover some poetry, literary exchanges, etc. Or simply let yourself be carried away by the plot of a good novel or thriller.

Between stages? Let your imagination run wild as you try to guess the rest of the story...

↪️ Musical hikes

If you love the sound of music, then the musical hike is made for you!

The idea? It's all about walking and tapping your feet.

During your hike, you can stop at various stages to check out a group, a choir, a DJ or whatever, who will offer you a unique musical experience, often in an unusual setting. In short, a moment out of time, let's face it!

This type of walk is also organised as a festival. I don't know about you, but personally, I'm quite tempted. 🙄

Different programmes are also on offer, covering all styles of music: hip-hop, pop, rock, reggae, groove, funk, electro, swing, world music... You're bound to find a rhythm to suit you.

↪️ Walks, hikes and gourmet itineraries

Here, hiking becomes an opportunity - or even a pretext - for enjoying yourself. It can also be an opportunity to discover the culinary specialities of the region you're walking through.
Think of it as elaborate refuelling, if you like!

During this experience, there will be several stops along the way for a drink or a bite to eat.
You can go for a complete menu: aperitif, starter, main course, dessert and coffee: or an assortment of desserts: you're bound to find something to suit you and your appetite!

This kind of gourmet itinerary is also possible in the city, on what are known as "food tours": it's an opportunity to discover a city in a different way (thanks to its restaurants).

In general, these activities are easy to adapt to different types of diet: vegetarian, vegan, etc. Don't hesitate to ask! The same applies if you suffer from food allergies or intolerances. With a little flexibility, you should be able to find a menu and itinerary to suit you.

↪️ Orienteering and hiking

I think you know these a little better! I think we all went through this stage at school.

Here, we're talking about a fun test that combines: orientation, general knowledge, knowledge of heritage and walking. Because yes, even if it's better known as “orienteering”, you can have fun on this kind of route while walking!

The idea is to challenge yourself both physically and mentally, with one objective in mind: solve a riddle as often as possible, in the time available.

↪️ Urban tours

Are you interested in urban hiking?

Perhaps you've already heard of the GR2013? It's a long-distance trail that takes you not through the great outdoors, but through the city, and in this case the metropolis of Aix-Marseille.

Since the creation of this urban trail 10 years ago, other French cities have inaugurated their own GR. I'm thinking in particular of Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Nice and Strasbourg.

The idea is to walk, of course, while discovering a city. You're free to take breaks: shopping, museums, restaurants, cafés, etc.

Just make sure you avoid city shoes as much as possible, as they can leave you with nasty souvenirs and blisters.

Do 10,000 steps without realising it: walk differently!

So that's it, have I brought you and walking back together? Well, maybe you were already devoted to it after all! 😉
In any case, I hope these slightly different ways of walking have inspired you! If you can't find any events like this near you, feel free to organise them with your loved one, families and friends... How about it? Have a good walk!
